After leading Amazon Prime's global engineering, Chapman took IonQ public in 2021 as the first pure-play quantum computing company to list on a U.S. exchange, commanding a $2 billion valuation and securing contracts with the Air Force, DOE, and Hyundai.
Peter Chapman served as President and CEO of IonQ from 2019 until February 2025, leading the trapped-ion quantum computing company through its 2021 SPAC merger at an enterprise value of roughly $2 billion.
IonQ's systems are available through Amazon Braket, Microsoft Azure Quantum, and Google Cloud. Before IonQ, Chapman was Director of Engineering at Amazon Prime. He stepped down from his Executive Chairman and board roles later in 2025.
