Noubar Afeyan is the Founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering, a life sciences platform company that invents breakthrough technologies and creates new ventures.

Flagship has originated and fostered over 100 scientific ventures, including Moderna-the company whose mRNA technology powered one of the two COVID-19 vaccines that helped end the pandemic. Moderna alone reached over $18 billion in peak annual revenue. Afeyan, an Armenian-Lebanese-Canadian-American immigrant, founded Flagship in 2000 with a unique model: rather than waiting for entrepreneurs to bring ideas, Flagship proactively invents new technologies and creates companies around them. This venture creation approach has produced dozens of companies across therapeutics, agriculture, nutrition, and sustainability. Afeyan also serves as Co-Chairman of Moderna's board.
