By assembling Stripe, Alphabet, Meta, Shopify, and McKinsey into a $1 billion+ advance market commitment in 2022, Ransohoff built Frontier into the single largest demand driver for permanent carbon removal technologies — rewriting how the tech industry funds climate solutions.
Nan Ransohoff is the Head of Climate at Stripe and the Head of Frontier Climate, the $1 billion+ advance market commitment to accelerate the development of permanent carbon removal technologies.
Ransohoff launched Frontier in 2022 with founding members Stripe, Alphabet, Meta, Shopify, and McKinsey, creating a market-making mechanism that guarantees future purchases of high-quality carbon removal to help nascent technologies scale. Frontier has since expanded to include dozens of corporate buyers and has committed over $1 billion to carbon removal purchases, making it the single largest driver of demand in the emerging carbon removal industry. The initiative has funded companies across direct air capture, enhanced weathering, bio-oil injection, ocean alkalinity enhancement, and other pathways. Before launching Frontier, Ransohoff led Stripe Climate, which pioneered allowing businesses to direct a portion of their Stripe payments revenue to carbon removal. She previously led product at Opendoor, where she helped build the iBuying category. Her work has fundamentally shaped how the technology industry approaches climate action, moving beyond offsets to direct investment in permanent removal solutions.
