Co-founder of Justin.tv — the company that became Twitch — and CEO of Y Combinator's core accelerator from 2016 to 2023, Seibel has shaped thousands of startups while becoming Silicon Valley's most prominent advocate for Black and underrepresented founders.
Michael Seibel is a Managing Director at Y Combinator, where he has been a partner since 2013, and one of the most influential Black leaders in Silicon Valley.
Seibel co-founded Justin.tv in 2007 with Justin Kan, Emmett Shear, and Kyle Vogt-which later pivoted to become Twitch, the live-streaming platform acquired by Amazon for $970 million. He also co-founded Socialcam, a mobile video company acquired by Autodesk for $60 million in 2012. At Y Combinator, Seibel served as CEO of the core accelerator program from 2016 to 2023, overseeing thousands of funded companies during a period of explosive growth. He is a prolific advocate for underrepresented founders, speaking publicly about the challenges of being a Black founder in Silicon Valley and working to expand access to startup funding and mentorship. Seibel's perspective-combining experience as a founder of successful exits with leadership at the most influential startup accelerator in the world-makes him one of the most respected mentors in the technology ecosystem.
