By building Hugging Face into the hosting platform for over one million open-source AI models — used by Google, Meta, Microsoft, and 50,000 other organizations — Delangue turned a failed chatbot app into the $4.5B neutral infrastructure layer the entire AI ecosystem runs on.
Clem Delangue co-founded Hugging Face in 2016 in New York, initially building a chatbot before pivoting to become the central hub for the open-source AI community.
The platform now hosts over one million models, datasets, and applications and is used by more than 50,000 organizations including Google, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Intel. Hugging Face was valued at $4.5 billion in its 2023 funding round led by Google, Amazon, Nvidia, and Salesforce.
