After building the second-largest U.S. boutique hotel chain and professionalizing Airbnb's hospitality operations, Conley founded Modern Elder Academy — the world's first school dedicated to helping people convert midlife experience into their next entrepreneurial act.
Chip Conley is the Founder of Modern Elder Academy, the world's first midlife wisdom school, and the founder of Joie de Vivre Hospitality, which he grew into the second-largest boutique hotel company in the United States before selling it to Hyatt.
After the sale, Conley was recruited by Brian Chesky to serve as Airbnb's Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership, where he helped the young company professionalize its hospitality operations and mentored its leadership team. His experience at Airbnb inspired his bestselling book Wisdom@Work: The Making of a Modern Elder and the founding of Modern Elder Academy, which offers programs helping people navigate midlife transitions and repurpose their experience. Conley has authored five books and is a prominent speaker on longevity, wisdom, and the future of work. His entrepreneurial arc-from building a major hotel company, to helping scale Airbnb, to pioneering longevity education-demonstrates how entrepreneurship can evolve and deepen across different life stages.
